Halogen Light Bulb

I want to replace my 50W halogen bulbs (I have 9) with energy saving (possibly LED) ones. I have heard that the ones available are not very bright or produce a very cold blueish light (5000K or more). Does anyone know of any good ones that don't have these problems? Links please.

I have researched this myself and not found much to choose from. LED's are directional and don't shine all around like regular bulbs. Plus they are VERY expensive. Try looking for compact fluorescent bulbs. There are getting to be a lot of sizes and styles out now and many are "soft white" light, like you are accustomed to.

I have a 45W light bulb in my bike, but I'd like a bit more brightness. I'm thinking of a 60W halogen lamp, but how hot would it get compared to the one I have now? It's the reflector box I'm worried about, could it melt? Yes my bike provides enough energy, it can burn both high and low 45W beam without a problem, except the filament melting. But I'd still love to hear if the halogen would burn too hot or not, compared to the bulp I have now..

More importantly, can your alternator handle the extra load, and the wiring too, and does your bike vibrate too much? Halogen bulbs run at white heat, and the elements a frail. Bikes shake around much more than cars, and tend to blow the bulbs at an uneconomic rate. H/L reflectors should NEVER be plastic, tho the headlamp nacelle may well be. it could melt on a hot night.

I'm using a small Feit 50 watt halogen light bulb, copper wiring, & a 9 volt battery to light up a terrarium. Is the battery going to run out of juice after an hour or so? Is there any way I can rig it to hook up to an outlet?

If you are talking about a standard "Snap Top" 9V battery here is your answer. Duracell 9 Volt Batteries have a capacity of 550 mAh. That means the battery will deliver 550/1000 of an amp for one hour. That is very close to a half amp for one hour. A 50 watt draw on a 9 volt circuit, using the power formula of Power in watts = Current in amps X Voltage in volts, so; 50=? X 9. A little math and the answer is 5.555 Amps. So if the battery has a 550 mAh rating and you put a 50 watt load on it, it will last around 10 to 12 minutes. Good luck keeping batteries on hand, you will need several every hour.

Till you can get the right heat source for your monitor you can either use the halogen, a normal 100 watt light bulb or, a 100 watt red or blue regular light bulb. Walmarts have these regular red or blue colored bulbs. I have also even seen purple Westinghouse night reptile bulbs there too. Some Walmarts stay open 24 hours.
